Episode 17: Hanging with The Death Doulas

Recently I was invited to join a local coffee chat with Death Doulas here in Tucson. I’m a very curious person and after experiencing a “Death Cafe” last year I decided to check it out. I wanted to know what exactly a Death Doulas was and it wasn’t exactly what I expected. A Death Doula provides support to a person who’s dying and their loved ones. They don't provide medical care, death doulas provide many additional important services such as emotional, physical, and spiritual support — in addition to much-needed caregiver respite and logistical assistance.

It was such an interesting conversation and q+a, I learned a lot and felt inspired to share. Death is such a heavy and big topic that is often seen as taboo in the US that I wanted to shed some light on what death doulas are and how they are part of a much larger movement to make death a more natural and celebrated part of life. If you feel called, check it out. I hope it leaves you with a greater sense of peace around death and loss.

Thanks so much for listening, I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s episode. I’d love for you to leave a review, share with a friend or tag us on social media at lauriemarieloves and share what got out of today's episode! Be sure to join me again when I bring Death Doula Alice Vath on to share her experience as a death doula.
