FAQ

What is 14kt Rolled Gold Wire working?

Wire working is a very ancient craft, no doubt going back to the time that man first fashioned metal into strips of wire. Many fine examples of wire working were found in Egypt, dating from the time of the Pharaohs, and some of these can be seen in the British museum, the technique and style being much the same as we use today.

Most wire working is some with 14kt rolled gold. Rolled gold is made when the manufacturer obtains an ingot of 14kt gold, then fashions this into a tube. The center is filled with a semi-precious base metal, identical in color to gold, then fused and drawn down through diamond draw plates to the desired size and shape. The resulting wire has an attractive mirror finish and the outer surface is 14kt gold and looks and wears like gold.

Can You Size Rings?
